Surprising no one and everyone at the same time, German electro metal party boys Electric Callboy’s latest single The Way You Are is a chaotic mix of death metal and 90s boyband pop.
Accompanied by an equally chaotic music video (actually, probably more chaotic), the eighth single from the upcoming album TANZNEID starts off as a lush pop ballad heavily inspired by the Backstreet Boys, only to descend into a blood-soaked death metal assault, and we’re absolutely here for it. In fact, lead singer Nico sums it up perfectly with his euphoric moan, which can be witnessed at 1:54 in the video below (you’re welcome).
Speaking on the newly-released single, Electric Callboy said:
“The Way You Are started with a pretty simple idea: what if the sweetest late-’90s boy band love ballad suddenly turned into one of the heaviest songs we’ve ever written? We loved playing with that contrast, both musically and visually. The result is probably one of the most unexpected songs we’ve ever released, and definitely one of our favourites on TANZNEID.”
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of partying with Electric Callboy, you’ll know that riffing on the Backstreet Boys is absolutely in their wheelhouse. The band has frequently performed a cover of I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys during their Tekkno album tour, so seeing them bring this sound to the new album isn’t a massive surprise.
TANZNEID releases on August 7, and Aussie fans can party hard with the Germans on their upcoming Australian tour, with tickets still available through Destroy All Lines, except Brisbane which has sold out.
