PEAK is seemingly reaching the summit, with Landfall Games confirming that The Final Ascent will be the game’s last major update.
Arriving August 11, the developers have made it clear that this is the zenith for the game and represents the end of the road for significant new biomes and features for the vertical-scramble simulator.
The update centres around two new late-game biomes that will cycle into rotation alongside the existing Caldera and The Kiln, offering new hazardous landscapes to overcome as you approach the zenith of your run.
The Gloom is a fog-soaked swamp, whereas The Citadel goes full medieval mode with a giant fortress packed with classic traps like swinging flails and arrow shooting traps. The biggest concern is the end of the trailer, which shows a monstrous beast appearing to do its own bit of climbing – is the Scoutmaster a resident of the Citadel?
In a separate TikTok video, the Landfall crew break down the update with a few more details, mentioning that the new climbing range will include:
New experience, items and badges alongside some big secrets and answers to long-asked questions.
Given that PEAK was never meant to be a live service game, it should come as no surprise that the team would be hungry to do a proper final update. In fact, within the dev breakdown TikTok they also make mention that the biggest advantage to locking in their content spread is that they can finally knuckle down and get the game on consoles, so more people can achieve vertical ascendancy together.
Given that the PEAK crew have been riding a huge wave of momentum since releasing this surprise mega hit (the game won Best Multiplayer Game win at the 2025 Golden Joystick Awards, after all) they are probably quite deserving of a little rest.
