Recasting a lead role mid-production is every studio’s worst nightmare, but Amazon’s sudden pivot on God of War might just yield a Batista Bomb.
Reported back in June, initial lead actor Ryan Hurst was sidelined due to a severe injury during filming on set, with a stunt leading to a torn bicep. The God of War production paused immediately – and soon it became clear that Ryan’s injury required surgery that would be followed by a long recovery. This then pushed for a recast and restart of production in mid-October.
According to sources, Dave Bautista is apparently already in negotiations to take over the Dad of Boy role – which aligns pretty nicely with him just coming off the new Highlander movie which had him in fighting shape.
It may also placate some concerns from fans who already had a mixed response to an on-set photo released back in February, where the father and son moment didn’t quite strike the same chord that was felt in the game.
Given that big Davey boy Bautista has been racking up some impressive acting credits of late, the prospect of him taking on the stoic mantle of Kratos has people talking for all the right reasons. Did you see Knock at the Cabin? Dude crushed it.

If negotiations conclude in favour of the big guy, the Guardians of the Galaxy star will take over the Leviathan Axe as production prepares to resume in Vancouver. I am personally excited at the prospect, considering the series already has a two season order – I’d like it to at least be somewhat okay.
