As promised, we got our first glimpse at the upcoming story expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past, during this morning’s Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase. The first-look trailer itself was brief, but very cool. We see our boy Geralt enjoying some festivities in the new area of Letten before he inevitably gets into strife, culminating in a confrontation with a creature (a witch, perhaps) entangled in a tree.
We know Songs of the Past will launch across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC in 2027, and the teaser was awesome, but it wasn’t the big-ticket reveal.
No, that came just before this trailer, when it was announced that The Witcher 3, now 11 years old, would get a facelift. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered brings the legendary RPG closer to today’s standards, with improved visuals, combat, animations, and a reworked skill system. The remaster will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC on September 29.
The list of improvements and changes is extensive, so this Remaster is the ideal way to replay the game before the new expansion drops. Speaking of which, this release will package both of the previous expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Best of all, if you already own a copy of The Witcher 3 on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, this will be a free update that includes both expansions.
