Ghost Recon is one of those franchises that’s seen a lot of change over the years, and we’re likely in store for another shift in the coming years.
During this morning’s Ghost Recon 25th Anniversary Showcase, Ubisoft unveiled its plans for the squad-based tactical shooter, plans that involve giving some love to Ghost Recon Wildlands, slapping some big discounts on titles from throughout the series’ history, and a shiny new game in the pipeline.
Wildlands is receiving the most immediate love, with a massive free update coming to the game. The Last Rites update will boost the game’s visuals and performance, allowing the near-decade-old title to run at 60fps at 4K. In addition to the visual overhaul and new customisation options, the Last Rites update will come packing a new story mission and will mark the return of the Predator mission.
Another nice little bonus is that all previously released cosmetics will be obtainable for free, including limited-time and mode-specific gear. If you’re a PlayStation Plus member, you’ll also get a handful of exclusive Last Rites cosmetic items.
A free weekend for both Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint runs from today until August 12, with some steep discounts in place in case you want to continue your open-world shenanigans. Various games in the Ghost Recon franchise are on sale for up to 90% off. Before wrapping up the showcase with a proper look at the Last Rites update, the dev team dropped a little hint at what’s to come. It was revealed that the next game in the series has been in development for the past few years and is primed and ready for user testing. Those keen to get involved with playtesting can sign up for the Ghost Recon Insider program to slide into betas, alphas, and other playtesting goodness.
