Aussie-Developed Roguelike RPG Box Knight Squares Away An August Release Date

What if the idea of a toxic colleague was a bit more literal? Box Knight is here to show you.

Adelaide-based developer We Made a Thing Studios has announced that its debut game, Box Knight, will be coming to PC on August 25.

Box Knight is a roguelike RPG that trades dungeons for corporate spaces and boss arenas for your manager’s office. When your workmates are transformed into mindless monsters (probably thanks to a mandated meeting), it’s up to you to cobble together weapons and armour to take on the forces of Sally from accounting and that guy whose name you never remember.

You and another office drone can work together in local couch co-op to wade through levels, taking on waves of enemies in brawler-based combat. While you’ll be unlocking new weapons and armour during a run, it’s once you die that you’ll be able to use your resources and unlock permanent upgrades to help on your next attempt.

To make sure you aren’t having nervous tics looking at a hyper-real recreation of an office space, Box Knight employs a charming comic book aesthetic that imbues the locations and enemies with a level of character you’ll seldom find during your regular nine-to-five.

Take a look at the release date trailer for Box Knight:

I’ve played Box Knight a few times during PAX Aus, and it’s certainly one you should keep on your radar. Combat is intuitive, the visuals are fun, and the roguelike elements are well implemented. If you’re looking to blow off some suit-and-tie rage, Box Knight might be a blessing.

We want to hear from you. Does Box Knight look like an office workshop you want to attend? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
