Video games in the 90s and early 2000s were simple yet provided some of the most fun I’ve ever had with the medium. Motorbike racing game Road Rash is one of my favourite series and a great example of this – it’s amazing how much fun kicking and bashing other bikers (and police) was back in the day, especially into oncoming traffic.
Since the series’ last major release in 2000, Road Rash: Jailbreak, several indie developers have endeavoured to capture the magic EA created, yet none have fully scratched the itch. Developer Dob is the latest outfit embarking on this mission, with its upcoming spiritual successor Bash Moto, which is set to launch on PC sometime in 2026.
Bash Moto has a cel-shaded-esque 2D aesthetic featuring caricature character models and visuals inspired by EA’s early Road Rash work. Players will win races to earn cash, allowing them to repair or upgrade their wheels as races and opponents get tougher. Both single-player and local split-screen modes will be available.
If you’re like me and excited for a Road Rash-inspired game, you can follow Bash Moto’s development on X or add it to your Wishlist on Steam.
What do you make of Bash Moto? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
