This morning’s Nintendo Direct went pretty hard, and this announcement might have been the hardest.
One of two major reveals from this morning’s Nintendo Direct was the next entry in the 2D Metroid series, titled Metroid Ravenous. The game will launch on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027.
Jumping back into the power suit of Samus, you’ll explore a mysterious moon and battle against a cabal of deadly assassins as you try to survive and find a way off the rock.
The reveal trailer for this game is exceptionally cool. The new wrinkle for this entry will see Samus absorb abilities from her enemies, with the iconic protagonist hitting us with this year’s most hardcore line of dialogue at the end of the trailer: “It’s eat or be eaten.”
Give the trailer a watch; you won’t regret it:
In addition to the standard copy, Ravenous will also have a Special Edition that comes with the game, a steelbook, and a Samus (Metroid Suit) Amiibo exclusive to this edition. If you’re keen on the Special Edition, get your $194.95 ready and head over to the Nintendo Store to get your pre-order in.
Two other Ravenous Amiibo will also be released alongside the game. The Samus ($29) and Chozo Statue ($59) will both launch on January 28, 2027, and can be pre-ordered through JB Hi-Fi now.
I’m not even a huge Metroid fan, but the name, the trailer’s energy, the enemy absorbing. Hot damn, this game looks rad.
